The HealthDesk allows patients find the unscheduled healthcare they need, in the time frame they want. This saves time for patients and resources for health care facilities that may be overwhelmed.
Designed by a front-line Emergency Medicine physician, the HealthDesk addresses an acute problem in health care today: many patients are avoiding emergency departments. Fear of infection is a frequent concern, and this is a legitimate concern particularly in the waiting room. Many patients, not unreasonably, hope to minimize their exposure in the waiting room of any emergency department.
For some patients, there may be an individual need to be treated at a specific hospital – but for many others, for example patients who may have COVID 19, there are many treatment facilities to consider. Patients need help identifying facilities that have minimal waiting room times, and capabilities that are appropriate to their needs.
The website helps identify health care facilities with suitable capabilities based on the user’s location. For every ER, it will initially display historical data initially; registered managers can provide near real time wait time estimates for each facility. Crowdsourced input is also encouraged.
To ensure accuracy of crowdsourced estimates, only phones that are at or near an emergency room can submit a waiting time estimate, so that only actual on-site information is used.
